In Tønsberg and on the surrounding territories, numerous Viking grave mounds can be found. Some are the resting place of royal Vikings, others are surrounded by enigmas and legends, and others are not even excavated. The Slagen Church, which was built at the beginning of the 20^th century, is surrounded by a wide cemetery, which seems to host various burial mounds dating from the Viking period. Besides the Viking graves, one of the most famous artists from the Vestfold region is buried here: Sven Jørgensen.
