Oseberghauen – Royal Mound, Tønsberg |
Norway Attractions and Hotels
One of the most impressive and valuable mounds in all Norway is
Oseberghauen, which is located near Tønsberg. Why? Simply because the mound is
the grave of a queen, Queen Alvhild, that died in the 9th century
AD. But even more, the mound itself presents valuable representations of the
burial traditions: a carved bed with animal patterns, tools, sledges and other
artistic elements, all in an actual ship, which is very representative and, at
the same time, very impressive for the Viking culture at that time.
