Just like the town Tønsberg, Nøtterøy welcomes tourists to see and admire old burial mounds that resulted after serious excavations, mounds dating from the Viking times, from the Iron Ages or from the Bronze Ages. At Søndre Hella, the tourists can see not less that 20 burial mounds. Scientists believe that the graves date from the Iron Ages, around the years 500-800 AD. The area is kept very well, especially since its restoration in 1991.
