The Fredrikstad Museum is located in the Old Town of Fredrikstad. The Old Town was formerly used as a fortress back in the 1600s. The Museum contains pieces from the prison of the so called Slaveriet as well as many exhibits with historical meaning. There are plenty of works of art, military items and civilian objects collected throughout the centuries. Fredrikstad is a fortress town, being the best-preserved of its kind in North Europe.
