Holmestrand Museum is located in a very old house, which dates from the 18^th century and which originally belonged to patrician Fredrik Christensen Holst. Still, the museum only opened in 1937 and since then, it has been presenting a wide range of exhibits starting with the 16^th century and until contemporary times. Mainly, the exhibits are focused on the Holmestrand history, not on the national history and many items present the maritime life of the town.
