Kongsten Festning, the fortress of Fredrikstad

The Kongsten Festning, the fortress of Fredrikstad is located just outside the Old Town –Gamlebyen. The monument was erected on Gallows Hill and used to serve as a location where criminals were executed. During the Swedish dominance, the site was strengthened by some underground chambers, passages and cannons. Today, the Kongsten Festning, the fortress of Fredrikstad is a great location to discover the history of Fredrikstad. The museum is free of charge and everyone is welcome.
