The site was specially created for the Ice Hockey Winter Olympics in 1994. The first plan was to build an arena outdoors, but the final project was an underground hall. The Gjøvik Olympic Mountain Hall is located in the centre of the town towards the end of the High Street. On the same street, there is also a prestigious swimming pool. The Gjøvik Olympic Mountain Hall created a new allure for the centre of the town, and it attracted more visitors and tourists.
