Svelvik
Church, known as the locals as the “town’s Kirke”, was built in the 19th
century, after the medieval church that dated from the 13th century was
destroyed, simply because it was not big enough for all the parishioners. The
new Svelvik Church is much bigger, since it can
gather not less than 700 people. But the older church was not completely
destroyed – its alter painting can be found in the new church, and various
items that used to be a part of the medieval church can be admired at the local
museum.
